It was probably `F33f`_`[frugivorous`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Frugivorous]`_`f, and would have weighed about 27 kilograms (60 lb). Its remains were found close to `F33f`_`[Ankara`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Ankara]`_`f in central `F33f`_`[Turkey`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Turkey]`_`f beginning in the 1950s.`:cite-ref-1[`F5bf`_`[1`#cite-note-1]`_`f] It lived during the `F33f`_`[Late Miocene`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Late_Miocene]`_`f`:cite-ref-2[`F5bf`_`[2`#cite-note-2]`_`f] and was similar to `*`F33f`_`[Sivapithecus`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Sivapithecus]`_`f`*. The genus has one species, `*`!Ankarapithecus meteai`!`*, known as the `*`!Ankara monkey.`!`*
